  1. What does spelling check mean for Chinese and Japanese?

    Can you clarify what is meant by supporting "spell check" for languages such as Chinese and Japanese? What is a spelling error in those languages; they are not based on "spelling"?

  2. Example for Spellcheck API v7 doesn't work

    Provided Ruby example https://github.com/Azure-Samples/cognitive-services-REST-api-samples/blob/master/ruby/Search/BingSpellCheckv7.rb doesn't work with free key.

    That's the result of the request:

    {
    "_type": "SpellCheck",
    "flaggedTokens": [

    ]
    }

  3. live person bug

    "live person" incorrectly corrects to "liveperson"

    "liveperson" is not a word.

    This is a very common utterance in chat bots, and luis's spell check with bing incorrectly makes it fail

  5. Spell checks for brand terms tagged incorrectly

    We see that spell checks returns incorrectly when there are 2 dots in the text. the checks however work fine for text with single dot

    The speller service doesn’t seem to identify this as a variant of trivago

    Speller Input: Tri.va.go Hotels. Save 70% - New Deals Just Added
    Speller Output: Tri.va. Go Hotels. Save 70% - New Deals Just Added

    However the below variants are correctly identified

    Speller Input: Triva.go Hotels. Save 70% - New Deals Just Added
    Speller Output: Trivago Hotels. Save 70% - New Deals Just Added

    Speller Input: Tri.vago Hotels. Save 70% - New Deals Just…

  6. English spell checks incorrect under spell mode

    Can be seen at: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/cognitive-services/spell-check/
    or with hitting the api:

    With spell mode and en-US:
    "Hawai" gets corrected to "ハワイ"

  7. Spell check offset incorrect if certain characters are in the text

    I haven't tested with other special characters but when an apostrophe is introduced into a string that is being checked the offset is thrown off by +2 for all tokens appearing after the apostrophe

  8. The API is not working in German (mkt=de-DE&mode=proof)

    The API is not working in German (mkt=de-DE&mode=proof)

    Response for the text 'Hollo, wrld!' and params = "mkt=en-US&mode=proof" is okay (see at the bottom), response for 'Hollo Weld!' params = "mkt=de-DE&mode=proof" is [].

    Correct answer for en-US:
    [{'offset': 0,
    'token': 'Hollo',
    'type': 'UnknownToken',
    'suggestions': [{'suggestion': 'Hello', 'score': 0.910459556342145},
    {'suggestion': 'Hollow', 'score': 0.863230438073279}]},
    {'offset': 7,
    'token': 'wrld',
    'type': 'UnknownToken',
    'suggestions': [{'suggestion': 'world', 'score': 0.910459556342145}]}]

  10. Improve spell checking of people names

    I have encountered some problems with the spell check API changing people names that are actually spelled correctly. Examples are Paskal & Nicolaas.
    This causes searches downstream in my app (using LUIS) to not work as expected because the changed name cannot be found. I have noticed similar issues with company names and some acronyms.
    Ideally similar functionality that exist in Microsoft Word would be nice. This allows the user to add words to the dictionary for future reference. I realize though that the Bing Spell Checker is based on a different architecture using Machine Learning etc. so this might…

  11. Support for other English locales

    The documentation indicates other English locales coming soon. Please make these available. British English (en-GB), Canadian English (en-CA), Australian English (en-AU), New Zealand English (en-NZ), and Indian English (en-IN).

  12. Spell Check seems to fail if certain characters are in the text.

    I was wondering why my text was reported as having no errors, when I was deliberately putting errors in.

    After an hour of trial and error, it turns out that sometimes, the API doesn't like having a period and then a line-feed character in the url-encoded text. LF seems to be encoded as %0A.

    Here are the examples that had me isolate the issue:
    Text=teh%0Atxet
    Reports 2 errors (teh and txet)

    Text=teh.%0Atxet
    Reports 0 errors.

    I don't really need the %0A in my strings so I can just strip them out. Maybe other URLENCODING libraries handle the LF character differently.

  16. The API is auto-correcting certain numbers to currencies

    The service seems to be having some kind of training data bias for some inputs. Sending only numbers like 50000, 250000, 500000 etc., is returning $50,000, $250,000 and $500,000 respectively. This does not seem to happen for other numbers like 5000, 10000, etc. The service should never assume that a number denotes monetary value unless there is more context surrounding it.

  17. Fix the service to correct scenarios highlighted in your examples.

    Your examples show Stephen Spielberg being spell check corrected to Steven Spielberg. However, your example does not correct Stephen to Steven.

  18. Add the ability to train BSC on AD/AAD

    For spell check on names, it would be incredibly useful to train the service on an Active Directory (or AAD) model or an arbitrary model.
