Dear Team, I receive a message stating: An error occured while making the HTTP request to https://api.microsofttranslator.com/V2/soap.svc
This could be to the fact that the server certificate is not configured properly with HTTP.SYS in the HTTPS case. This could also be caused by a mismatch of the security binding between the client and the server.

I have used MicrosoftTranslator many time before and have not changed anything since using it the last time. Can you think of a possible explanation? Thank you very much. Kind regards, LL

What's wrong here.

Actually, the response contains olny the GET as allowed HTTP method, but the documentation describe I need to send a POST.

The token expires after 10 minutes. Best practice is to use a timer to request a new token before the old one expires, and continue to use that token for the time you have set.
Our sample code in https://github.com/MicrosoftTranslator/GetAzureToken uses a 5 minute timer, to give you 5 minutes to actually use it.
There is no harm if you request earlier than needed, and you don’t need to synchronize the token between machines or threads or processes, but there is harm if you request a new token for every translation request.

7. Neural MT: TranslateApiException on Simplified Chinese engine

Hi,
we are evaluating the NMT engines and have found that English-> Chinese engine occasionally returns the "TranslateApiException: server temporarily unavailable " error.
The source for translation contain no suspicious content apart from some alphanumeric abbreviations. I suspect there might be some transliterization issue in the backround - the same sentence is translated well for European languages.
Couldyou please take a look? Thanks.

Some source examples:

The PCM monitors reference voltage deviation from the power supply circuit of the APS1.
PCM monitors peak differential value of the oxygen sensor signal after the front HO2S fluctuation being provided .

Thanks for the report. We updated the translation models last week. Your examples now translate as:

pcm 监测 APS1 电源电路的参考电压偏差。
pcm 在提供前 HO2S 波动后, 监测氧气传感器信号的峰值差值。

Using the following parameters:
Console.WriteLine(“Translated: {0}”, translatorService.Translate(token, “The PCM monitors reference voltage deviation from the power supply circuit of the APS1.”, “en”, “zh-Hans”, “text/plain”, “generalnn”, string.Empty));

8. Translation Array: less-than sign (<) ruins the translation when using text/html

When source contains < character (encoded either as < or <) the source text is incorrectly parsed; and translation nis garbage.

For example:
curl -X POST -H "Authorization: Bearer xyz" -H "Content-Type: application/xml" -d '<TranslateArrayRequest>
<AppId />
<From>en</From>

9. Special characters gets encoded after translation

I'm using the text translator api to auto translate text. However some characters could get encoded when comes back from the api, which is surprising. For example, if I need to translate this text "> 12 days" into different languages. "fr" and "es" would encode ">" to "&gt" while "nl", "de" wouldn't change it.

Correct result from en to nl:
https://api.microsofttranslator.com/v2/ajax.svc/TranslateArray?appId=%22Tqu9huv-RrHgQf20iMFrVx1L5GOPE22QQHdlrcbnpI8M*%22&texts=[%22%3E+14+days%22]&from=%22%22&to=%22nl%22

Encoded result from en to fr:
https://api.microsofttranslator.com/v2/ajax.svc/TranslateArray?appId=%22Tqu9huv-RrHgQf20iMFrVx1L5GOPE22QQHdlrcbnpI8M*%22&texts=[%22%3E+14+days%22]&from=%22%22&to=%22fr%22

10. Please show the number of characters used for the free tier translation API.

Currently, the portal doesn't show, for the free tier, the number of characters that have been used per month. If it does, it will help determine when I need to switch using the paid tiers.

12. 1008 - Too many binary messages.

hi
in some case we are getting 1008 error code on websocket.

in the documentation (http://docs.microsofttranslator.com/speech-translate.html), there are some error codes, like 1001, 1011, but not 1008.

it seems for us that Azure closes the websocket connection, with this error code, in certain cases. the question is why this happens?

thanks

Translator closes the websocket connection after a period of inactivity. You will want to silently recreate the websocket connection when you receive this error.

That is generally a good thing, because you won’t be charged for the time the connection is not open.

The docs could be better in documenting the techniques for keeping the connection alive and the associated messaging. I’ll see to making that happen.

13. How can I detect multiple candidate languages?

If I submit Ginea Ekwatorjali, the Maltese name for Equatorial Guinea, it is detected as "eu" = Euskadi. "eu" is not supported but "mt" is.
Is there or will there or can there be a service which will return the possible candidates for a language code for a given text, so if there is more than one we can pick one that works?

16. 专有名词的保留

有很多专有名词是不需要也不应该被翻译的。这些词被翻译会对整个句子造成很大的影响。
翻译的时候是否应该可以让用户提供 一个 专有名词的列表,让这些词原样保留,而不被翻译. 或者是 对于专有名词有一定的格式,而让机器去智能去过滤处理!
在很多科技相关的文章中,保留专有名词不被翻译,会大大提高翻译后文章的质量和可读性.

17. Microsoft has made a mistake with the transition to Azure.

Microsoft requires credit card details - even for Azure's free option - which it promises to conserve but never use. Well, no thank you. I never give out my credit card details except in exchange for essentials like groceries and home appliances. So, regretfully, that is the end of my contributions to Microsoft Hub. I will stay with Google Translator Toolkit, which requires nothing from its contributors but their unpaid labor.

18. Quality of Alternative translations

So I hope I'm posting this at the right place. If not, please let me know.
When I use the online interface for Bing Translator to see the alternative translations, I get the feeling that I'm in the future where translation is downright magical and the world is perfect. See here for the tranlations of __: http://imgur.com/a/mjGPW . I get the following translations: Array [ "allow", "permitted", "enables", "let", "permission", "allowable", "permissible" ]

However, when I use the API to get alternative translations for __ using the following request:

<GetTranslationsArrayRequest>

19. I want a function in excel similar to google sheets = GoogleTranslate - so MS translator can be copied for all rows rather than 1 by 1

I can't find a way to copy the translation down so it performs the same operation for every row in a spreadsheet. You have to do it 1 row at a time following the process to translate. It would be great if a function existed like Google has =GoogleTranslate(cell,"from language","to language") - or am I missing a method to do this? Thanks.

20. wordbee

Wordbee API

I use Wordbee, an online translation tool. When I choose Microsoft MT to pre-translate the source text, the numbers with brackets (e.g. [12,000] or [1.23]) will be translated into brackets with numbers (e.g., [] 12,000 or [] 1.23). It is so strange. Segments such as [20.2%] will also be translated into [] 20.2%.

I also asked this question a couple of days ago. https://microsofttranslator.uservoice.com/forums/291942-general/suggestions/15815941-wordbee-api
